CISOs spent years with a C-level title but lacked C-suite access to other members of the executive team and board. Most CISOs reported up through IT, proxied from being true members of the executive leadership team (ELT) by an IT manager or the CIO. Forrester’s Security Survey, 2022 data shows that more CISOs than ever find themselves escaping from IT and reporting directly into the CEO, becoming a peer of their former boss in the C-suite.
