Private cloud can be difficult to implement and manage and has a rich history of casualties. Conceptually, enterprises need both private and public cloud services, but public cloud success has far outweighed that of private — the long knowledge ramp, hefty transformation requirements, and high costs present significant barriers to private cloud deployments. Looking forward, private cloud solutions will mitigate the challenges currently plaguing day 1 and beyond. This means cheap and fast developer productivity that can scale when higher maturity or demand requires it. Market solutions and infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals must adjust to meet these requirements.
