Summary
Forrester Research is launching a limited number of discussions with business process management (BPM) thought leaders; this is the first of the series. Given that BPM suites (BPMSes) verge on a major breakthrough in many organizations, it helps to take a retrospective of BPMSes and where they are headed. Phil Gilbert, formerly president and CTO of Lombardi Software and now vice president of BPM at the IBM Software Group, is uniquely suited to provide perspective on developments in the BPMS marketplace. Phil helped drive the development of the BPMS pure-play market while at Lombardi Software and has since then seen the market consolidate and take off after IBM acquired Lombardi. Phil was on the leadership board of BPMI.org for many years; following BPMI.org's merger with the Object Management Group (OMG), he took an active role on OMG's BPMI Steering Committee.
