Summary
Hydrasight notes that managing a single method of cross-website integration remains elusive for the majority of IT organisations. Various methods remain in common use including email, web services, SOA, WDDX, FTP, RPC, "XML over HTTP," plus an even wider variety of commercial products. However, we note that representational state transfer (REST) has often been discounted as a serious integration method -- until it was given its name. Hydrasight believes REST should be considered a viable and effective method of web-based integration, including business-to-business in some cases.
