Summary

The key to green IT is the green request for proposal (RFP). Firms driving energy efficiency in desktop and data center environments use the RFP process to gain energy efficiency as part of their green IT goals. This valuable tool proves its worth for IT and sourcing professionals working on aligning internal green IT requirements with current vendor offerings. The RFP also signals in which areas IT planners intend to push their vendors in the future. Responses to a joint survey that Forrester conducted in collaboration with Tech:Touchstone Events at its Green IT 08 Conference & Exhibition, May 2008 show that enterprise IT buyers in the UK continue to seek progressive energy efficiencies and cleaner manufacturing processes, and they want vendors to impose a code of conduct across their own supplier ecosystems.
