The Cloud Foundry platform has all of the hallmarks of success: It has proven effective in speeding application delivery, is available as open source, is backed by HP, IBM, Intel, SAP, and VMware, is associated with OpenStack and Docker, and boasts strong name recognition. But success is not inevitable. Though the project is seven years old, customers are just starting to adopt Cloud Foundry, and the platform remains a complex choice freighted with risks that few customers, including application development and delivery (AD&D) professionals, understand.
