Summary

Although enterprise service bus (ESB) products are an early focus for purchase by service-oriented architecture (SOA) users, SOA management products have more-sustained buying focus and also correlate more strongly with SOA satisfaction. But beyond the products, there's something more important: the governance practices you adopt with SOA, which do the most to ensure satisfaction. Although SOA specialty products — ESBs, SOA management, SOA appliances, and SOA service life-cycle management (including registry-repository) — can help with SOA success, Forrester cautions SOA users to buy only based on demonstrated SOA need, not SOA theory.
