Summary
Broadband household penetration in Spain stood at only 35% at the start of 2008, close to 5 million connections. Spanish broadband uptake has progressed slowly compared with its European neighbors: A combination of high prices, a dominant incumbent, and regulation disputes have limited growth. By the end of 2013, total residential connections will rise to 9 million, 61% of households. This places Spain only 13th in terms of broadband adoption out of the 17 countries we've studied, highlighting the ongoing struggle that Spain faces to move up the broadband ladder in Europe.
