Summary

When firms support their employees' mobile phones and smartphones, good things happen. Our recent survey of 2,307 IT decision-makers in the US and Europe showed that one in four enterprises provides at least some support for personal mobile devices. The leading applications on these personal phones support mobile collaboration: email and calendaring, as well as access to corporate networks and team sites. Worried about security? The best approach is not building higher walls; it's creating a "personal responsibility" policy that covers all devices and media, bolstering the policy with training, supporting emerging technologies, and monitoring for compliance.
