As pandemic restrictions lift and the economy restarts, many businesses are encouraging in-person options for people who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. While some require proof of vaccination, others use an “honor code” by asking consumers to self-report their vaccine status. Economic and social recovery will require consumers to trust not only companies to enforce safety measures but also their peers with whom they share shops, public transport, and offices. However, our latest data reveals that US consumers are most likely to trust family and close friends to accurately disclose their vaccine status; less than half trust their colleagues; and less than a third believe the general public.
