The IT To Business Technology Transformation — Learning From Telcos

The convergence of technologies and new types of competition is forcing telecom operators (telcos) to integrate IT into business functions, providing interesting case studies for what Forrester has described as the move from IT to business technology. Forrester interviewed IT executives from British Telecom, COLT Telecom, Interoute, Orange Business Services, T-Systems, and Telefonica about the present and future role of IT in their firms to identify trends and patterns that are likely to also be applicable to other vertical sectors. The results provide evidence of a more general trend toward the splitting of the traditional IT role into two functions: business technology support and IT services.
