Business process management (BPM) projects are fundamentally different from IT projects. Rather than a fixed set of software deliverables with a predetermined end state, the outcome of a BPM project is just one of many steps on a transformational journey. Additionally, BPM projects are less about technology and more about how the organization does business — and that means challenging cultural norms and current approaches. These differences make BPM projects significantly riskier and more challenging than other types of technology projects.
