Summary

A common component of large outsourcing deals is the management of distributed servers and mainframe support. Forrester estimates that the 2006 global outsourcing market for mainframe and distributed environment outsourcing was about $95.5 billion, and there will be steady growth in this space throughout 2007. To help sourcing and vendor management executives make more informed outsourcing decisions, Forrester partnered with outsourcing advisory firm TPI to identify current pricing trends in the server management and mainframe support market. A key finding: Pricing decreases are roughly in line with expected information rates, suggesting few — if any — disruptive innovations expected over the next few years. But smart buyers will use pricing trends as a guideline and insist on continued due diligence regarding the scope and prices for their specific deals.
