With many enterprise resource planning (ERP) projects on hold due to recession-induced spending constraints, some pent-up demand is evident that will result in more upgrades, replacements, and consolidations in 2010. On the vendor side, any sign of increased activity will be welcome, as the market has suffered an unprecedented decline that has forced vendors to live off maintenance contracts. Vendor business models will evolve to reduce dependence on nonrecurring revenue streams, while technology innovations and new product introductions will help breathe some life into customer long-term applications strategies.
