In Forrester’s October 2025 Consumer Pulse Survey, 19% of US online adults said they had used ChatGPT and 3% had used Perplexity in the past month to search for products they were interested in buying. This is essentially flat from February 2025, when 18% of US online adults used ChatGPT for this purpose and only 4% used Perplexity. Not surprisingly, Google (69%) and Amazon (58%) still commanded the lion’s share of product discovery searches in the US in October 2025. We predict that answer engines will continue to steal traffic in 2026, but in the immediate term, brands and retailers should expect limited growth from US adults using answer engines, including the 2025 holiday season.
