Sourcing and vendor management (SVM) professionals should read this report to understand the current visa discourse relative to IT outsourcing and thus limit their exposure to visa risk. In our discussions with clients, we often hear that they are confused about which type of visa is required for different types of assignments. There is also some confusion about when landed visa resources are required and when local resources could fulfill on-site roles. As the US government tightens its focus on employment visas, US clients need to understand how their offshore outsourcing visa exposure could affect project productivity and delivery and ensure that they have no legal exposure. Clients outside of the US may face different regulatory issues, but they should be aware of how similar issues related to on-site resources might affect their own outsourcing strategy.
