Traditional networks can't keep up with the pace of change within the data center. Many infrastructure and operations (I&O) professionals have investigated various technologies to deploy the five tenets of Forrester's virtual network infrastructure (VNI) and found some immature elements. As data center switching hardware ages out, organizations want to avoid locking themselves into one specific software-defined solution. In this report, we highlight the multiple vendors that offer data center switches and methods of programmability without other dependencies.
