The WIM: A weekly summary of What It Means

Mobile may be a large, strategic imperative for your business, but mobile is also small and personal. Mobile enabled me to watch my niece compete for a state high school soccer championship live in Ohio, while on my iPad I watched my son thousands of miles away swim for his team at Princeton.

Forrester calls these mobile moments, when we get what we need, when and where we need it most. How companies can create and capitalize on mobile moments is the central idea in the new Forrester book, The Mobile Mind Shift.

You have only scratched the surface of how mobile defines your relationship with the customer. We encourage you to share your mobile moments using #MyMobileMoment on Twitter and Instagram. In doing so, you'll help us demonstrate how mobile moments — both big and small — are changing business.

Digital And Business Strategy Should Be One — But Aren't

Digiday has run a series of interesting articles on the digital strategies of leading publishers, such as The Financial Times. Publishing has been hit hard by digital disruption, but still less than 35 percent of executives across industries see digital technology as a major driver of business strategy, according to our new report.

We explore this friction in The Digital Business Transformation Playbook. The latest report in that series outlines the driving forces that should guide your digital business transformation strategy.

Consumers Still Don't Understand Data Privacy

As the US takes measures to improve data privacy protection for citizens, consumers still don't understand the issue. At Facebook's f8 developer conference, the company announced steps to put the privacy issue front and center. We think that's a good move and marks a sea change in the privacy discussion.

What countries are most lenient or restrictive when it comes to data protection? Find out in Forrester's newly updated data privacy heat map.

Retailers Have A Secret Amazon Killer

Google owned last week's retail news when it announced same-day delivery, so you can imagine brick-and-mortar retailers are wary. But Forrester believes that retailers may ultimately hold a secret weapon to level the playing field with Amazon, something we think could spike online revenues between 10% and 30%.

For the business to deliver on this vision to customers, app development teams need to choose and implement the right packaged applications. These two Forrester reports are a good demonstration of how we're creating a common language between business and technology executives.

Your Customer Now Defines Your Brand

Great customer experience should be a defining characteristic of your brand, but all too often brand building and customer experience are disconnected. We strongly believe that today's marketing teams are not responsible for managing the brand but for managing the customer's experience of the brand.

But first, marketing organizations need to evolve. And that requires a new approach to marketing operations, which Forrester outlines in a new report.
