Many of Forrester's enterprise clients complain that growing mobility costs are far outpacing other network and telecom services spending. To control mobility costs including cellular voice and data services, international mobile roaming, remote-access VPNs, internal IT support for multiple mobile OSes, and sourcing and vendor management of multiple — sometimes many — mobile service providers and contracts, it's important to first understand your actual spend for all of this, across the organization. Once that's done, it's time to profile end users according to their job roles and the mobility tools they need to do their job effectively.
Segmented end user roles help determine what standard or common types of connectivity and support they require. In the past, many firms applied an "ask, and you shall receive" approach to supporting mobile users. Those days have passed, and some clients say that they will pry smartphones and BlackBerrys out of the hands of many employees whose job doesn't require them to be always on, always available.
This teleconference explores good and best practices for reducing mobility costs based on actual client examples and leveraging some data from Forrester's recent user surveys.
