Prior to the pandemic, much of the future-of-work conversation focused on how automation will displace, add, or transform jobs. Those questions remain, but COVID-19 has raised even more. Rapid digital transformation, working from home (WFH), and recessionary cost pressures accelerated enterprise automation programs. This report describes how the enhanced automation focus affects technologists and their enterprises in three important ways: the flattening of organizations, a widely dispersed workforce, and the emergence of new forms of employee anxiety.
