Summary

IP multimedia systems (IMS) promise to energize the fragmented voice and cable communications industry with the power of Internet standards and all the innovations and network effects that follow. Is it now time for telecom marketers to pay attention to this trend? If vendor press releases and news announcements are an indication, IMS initiatives are gaining momentum. This report leverages results from Forrester's H1 2006 IMS activity tracker covering publicly available and self-reported IMS activities from IMS vendors in North America and Europe. The IMS activity tracker includes 110 IMS deals signed by 18 vendors with a total of 58 mobile, fixed, integrated fixed and mobile, and cable operators in Europe and North America. Overall survey results show that Europe dominates North America when it comes to the sheer number of deals, and telecom equipment manufacturers in Europe lead other types of vendors with respect to their announced IMS deals during the first half of 2006.
