Process intelligence tools are enjoying a revival, process simulation software adoption is extending beyond classic manufacturing processes, and digital twin use cases are expanding from covering single assets to whole plants. While these three tools enable data-based operational and strategic decisions, they’re often confused and overestimated, resulting in misguided investments and wrong conclusions. This report explains the purpose and evolution of digital twins, process intelligence, and simulation, their overlaps, and preconditions for successful use.
