IT To BT Transformation: Threats And Opportunities For CIO Reporting Lines

CIOs face many threats and opportunities as they grapple with the IT to BT transformation — including the risk of being sidelined by their line-of-business peers. Forrester surveyed 47 enterprise IT decision-makers to understand CIOs' level of confidence or anxiety about near-term threats and opportunities. Just over one-third of them think it very likely that within one year the IT function will report to a business executive such as the CFO rather than maintaining a direct reporting relationship with the CEO. To maintain — and even elevate — relevance and influence, opportunistic CIOs will move beyond demonstrating their tactical competence and use their process standardization and change management soft skills to drive growth and business value.
