Many information and knowledge management (I&KM) professionals still view document processing services (DPS) as a diverse set of specialized services that support document-intensive business processes. Yet over the past year, DPS offerings have separated into three distinct segments: hosted repository services, document output services, and distributed output services. More importantly, the segments are now linking in ways that promise to show real value to I&KM professionals in areas such as business process efficiency. To address the many and varying ways that content needs to be managed and put to use within any enterprise, I&KM pros should turn to DPS providers as a part of their enterprise content management (ECM) strategies.
