Most US Consumers Prefer To Use Self-Checkout When It’s Available

Nearly two-thirds of US online adults prefer to use self-checkout when it’s available, according to Forrester’s Retail Topic Insights 1 Survey, 2025. Younger US online adults are most likely to prefer self-checkout: More than 70% of US online adults ages 44 and younger prefer this option. But even among US online adults 65 and older — the only age group in which a majority of respondents did not prefer to use self-checkout — 46% still prefer this option. This data snapshot examines US online adults’ attitudes toward self-checkout.
