Application development and delivery (AD&D) in retail face a crisis, with several hundred malls set to close in the next decade. But the crisis offers an opportunity for retailers that can rethink customer experience, reimagine the strategic value of physical stores, and reinvent their business models. To adapt to new conditions, retail AD&D leaders must transform their application portfolios, replacing some elements and refactoring others. This research provides guidance about the scope and sequence of retail applications portfolio transformation and about whether to pursue a best-of-breed or application suite approach.
