Summary

The pandemic has forced enterprises worldwide to increase their use of digital technologies and automation. In Europe, businesses will embrace automation to address a demographic timebomb: By 2050, the Europe-5 — France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK — will have 30 million fewer people of working age. Automation will become integral to European competitiveness and coping with fewer workers. While new jobs in green energy and digital technologies will help offset the jobs lost to automation, 34% of European jobs are at risk from automation and 12 million jobs will be lost to automation across the Europe-5 by 2040.
