We fielded this third installment of Forrester’s PandemicEX Survey in October in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK (Europe-5). We conducted this research to further technology, marketing, and employee experience (EX) leaders’ insight into European employees’ views of the pandemic and its effects, and to help those leaders see how things have changed since March and May. More than 40% of workers in Europe-5 received resources from their companies to support their work from home; German employees received the most generous subsidies, at an average of €728. As of October, 49% of Europe-5 employees who are able to do their jobs remotely said they prefer working from home (while 33% of their compatriots reported that they can’t wait to get back to the office once this is all over). Forty-seven percent of Europe-5 workers say they’re experiencing pandemic fatigue, but that average conceals considerable variation between countries: 67% of Spanish employees felt exhausted and overwhelmed, but just 39% of UK and Italian employees agreed. The launching of COVID-19 vaccination programs in Europe (and globally) is an extremely hopeful sign, but because the vaccine rollouts will take months, European executives must help keep their employees safe and productive through the winter’s rise in infections.
