When implemented correctly, an organization’s environmental sustainability efforts help it reduce its environmental footprint, meet green market needs, and adapt to climate change. But future-generation safety and gaining the associated benefits acquired on the journey to that state needs not only regulatory compliance but also a commitment and roadmap, operational excellence, and disruptive innovation. We outline the five maturity levels of sustainability that organizations must progress through, the benefits and investments of each, and the organizational commitments that each level requires.
