As COVID-19 transitioned to endemic and countries reopened, anyone hoping for a reprieve from a global crisis had their hopes dashed on February 24, 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. Almost immediately, the United Nations Security Council was in session, and the US and Europe imposed the first tier of sanctions. Now, all firms will urgently need to reevaluate geopolitical risk in their business context and incorporate the impact of the war and all its downstream effects in a permanently changed risk landscape.
