In 2024, the global public sector will face challenges on two fronts: the social and economic effects of the generative AI (genAI) boom and a tense and shifting international order. Increased protectionism in the name of digital sovereignty will create three regional tech markets; but, despite fearmongering, genAI-created disinformation will fail to have any material impact on major elections. And although tech skills deficits will thwart many government efforts to use AI to address talent shortages, public sector customer experience (CX) will be supercharged by the combination of an explosion in AI-powered third-party consumer tools and redirection of one-third of tech spending to cross-agency CX efforts.
