Summary

An unpredictable virus and its economic impact, dramatic climate events, and a polarizing US presidential election will pressure insurers globally in 2021. Increasing appetite for usage-based insurance in personal auto will drive insurers to rethink how they help customers discover and explore insurance. As workers pivot from being employees to contractors, insurers will step up to replace gig income with old school disability coverage, but distribution will be a hurdle for many. 2021 holds great promise for established insurtechs, but smaller insurtechs will find it challenging to get the funding they need to survive. In this report, we explore Forrester’s predictions for insurance in 2021.
