Summary

The Associated Press (AP), the world's oldest and largest news cooperative, provides up-to-the-minute reporting that is seen or heard by nearly half the world's population. However, changes in how we consume news put AP's market position and revenue model at risk. To counter these threats, AP turned to new cloud-computing tools to help shape innovations in news consumption, expanding to new channels and new models for consumption, use, and manipulation of its content. The new API leverages two leading cloud platforms, an SOA application design, the Mashery product, and a RESTful interface. The new API provides the innovation AP needed while preserving the integrity of its existing IT systems.
