Summary

After months of speculation about who would or could acquire independent testing vendor AppLabs, Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) has stepped up and made the company an offer it can't refuse. Despite the fact that the terms of the deal were not disclosed, one can assume it was a good deal for both parties. AppLabs gets the cash to pay back its investors, and CSC gets a much-needed credibility boost in, if nothing else, its applications and testing business. It also gets a much better base from which to grow a credible application-related, cloud-based services business. Clients of CSC and AppLabs will need to examine the terms of the deal from an integration, leadership, and service offering perspective to determine whether this new development is a net positive or negative for their organizations. If all goes according to plan, the outcome should be overwhelmingly positive for clients; however, CSC and AppLabs must quickly address major challenges.
