Summary

In August 2014, the White House announced the creation of the US Digital Service and appointment of a digital administrator, along with a set of guidelines called the US Digital Services Playbook. This provides a modern, reliable approach to designing and building federal digital services. In the long term, Forrester expects the playbook to catalyze broader discussion among legislators and policymakers on digital services’ role in the public sphere. The new playbook provides a valuable tool to federal CIOs in their efforts to improve citizen experiences with online services. This report introduces the playbook and why it will be both valuable and timely for the federal technology community.
