Demandware announced on January 12 its intent to the acquire Tomax, a Salt Lake City-based provider of point-of-service (POS), store operations, and merchandising solutions, a decision that will substantially accelerate Demandware's ambitions to broaden its presence into the physical store. Most notably, the acquisition gives Demandware much-needed domain expertise in the areas of POS, store operations and cash management. At the same time, the acquisition allows Demandware to accelerate the delivery of its "One Platform" strategy whereby the firm aims to persuade existing customers and prospects alike to consolidate all of their channel transactions onto a common commerce platform.
