Summary

In today's healthcare environment, physicians must access a wide array of IT applications to provide quality patient care. Because of the growing number of both on-premises and SaaS-based applications, it's critical to provide physicians and other medical staff with a streamlined experience. You don't want them to waste their valuable time remembering passwords and logging in to individual applications one at a time. One healthcare provider understood the value and importance of single sign-on but needed to find the most cost-effective solution. Traditional Web single sign-on (Web SSO) solutions turned out to be too expensive for an environment with a small, fluctuating base of 1,500 to 2,000 users. Instead, the provider opted to use a pay-as-you-go authentication portal that it implemented on-premises but plans to move into the cloud soon. As a result, the provider has succeeded in providing a single sign-on experience at a far more reasonable cost than Web SSO.
