Summary

Mobile healthcare engagement continues to grow significantly. In addition to downloading applications, US online smartphone owners are conducting a variety of activities on their phones, of which receiving appointment text alerts, tracking food consumption, and tracking exercise are the most common. The most engaged consumers who use smartphones for healthcare-related activities tend to be young, highly educated, working parents. While mobile healthcare uptake is dominated by this younger population because these consumers are more likely to own a smartphone, older US adults with a smartphone are equally likely to use mobile applications as their younger counterparts. Healthcare companies should be aware of the growing market opportunity: As smartphone ownership increases, so will mobile healthcare activities.
