Why Read This Report

While paper and physical charge cards continue to dominate online and offline retail shopping transactions, mobile payments doubled in the last year and will continue to grow at 43% annually through 2018. As with other devices well penetrated within a market, the increase in purchase volume is primarily driven by smartphone ownership tenure. As a result, American consumers are showing increasing dexterity with their tactile smartphone usage: Nearly half of smartphone owners go online using their phones on a daily basis, and about one-third made a purchase through their phone in the past three months (Source: North American Technographics® Retail Survey, 2013). This report shows the size of the US mobile payments landscape from 2010 until 2018, detailing the rising payments through point-of-sale, remote mobile commerce, and mobile remittances.
