Summary

With strong growth in sales and consumer ownership of tablets, smartphones, and other multipurpose devices squeezing the market for single-function devices, global sales of dedicated eReaders peaked in 2011 at nearly 20 million and will decline steadily through 2019. However, the installed base of eReaders will continue to grow modestly through 2015, as owners will be reluctant to discard their eReaders even if their primary media consumption switches to other devices. eBook spending will continue to grow apace, at an 18% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) through 2019, as consumers shift their reading and book spending toward the digital channel. This forecast includes global data across 53 countries, with historical data back to 2010 and a five-year forecast.
