The Information Workplace (IW) is moving from a vision to reality. The convergence of portals, collaboration, content management, productivity, and line-of-business applications is gaining momentum and driving real business value. Even better, the IW vision is often driven through adherence to standards, thus avoiding the need to develop a strategy based on a single, monolithic vendor stack. Now, the really hard work begins. Even the best IW solutions still don't address the issue of knowledge gaps that persist across geographical, organizational, generational, multilingual, and employee turnover barriers. The next big challenge for IW professionals will be building an IW strategy that drives knowledge continuity across these barriers.
