Summary

In 2013, over half of enterprises stated that in 2014, they will be prioritizing building a private cloud, when it was only introduced less than five years ago. Although enterprises have quickly embraced the term "private cloud" and the general concept of higher levels of automation and faster delivery of resources, the actual environments significantly differ from resulting environments. Forrester survey data shows that few self-proclaimed private clouds meet the core definitions of a private cloud despite using private cloud software that enables these features. Most environments more closely resemble an enhanced virtualization environment. In this report, Forrester has assembled a combined list of predictions for private cloud management and private cloud infrastructure in 2014, referencing our previously published server and data center predictions for 2014 and detailing their specific implications for private cloud.
