The US economy is in the midst of an economic slowdown that is showing signs of spreading to Europe and parts of the Asia Pacific region. Downturns have historically affected the technology industry in different ways: Hardest hit have been hardware and software vendors, while the IT services industry has displayed a mixed response, with some segments, like outsourcing, benefiting from a focus on cost cutting. However, the IT industry has undergone tremendous change in the past five to seven years that will force tech strategists to rethink past tactics for weathering the storm.
