The Next-Generation PMO: The Latticed Model Enhances Enterprise IT Visibility

Summary

As mentioned in Forrester's October 16, 2009, "Making The Case For The Next-Generation PMO" report, traditional project management offices (PMOs) are moving beyond a traditional project-only focus to one that incorporates broader demand practices, expanded resource management practices, and process management. As IT organizations try to build processes that help them better manage demand, they are increasingly looking to the PMO to help manage holistic demand and integrate delivery practices. Centralizing demand and delivery management practices under existing PMOs may work as a first step for some organizations; however, organizations should consider the latticed PMO approach as an option to maintain optimum flexibility while building greater enterprisewide visibility into holistic demand and performance reporting.
