Summary

Over the next years, Forrester expects IT organizations as we know them today to change dramatically, a result of a new wave of emerging technologies and a shift in the way employees use technology. Technologies that are easy to acquire and use will empower self-sufficiency among business users, while changes in the business landscape will up the ante for speed and agility requirements. The IT organization that survives in 2020 will be an organization that shifts from "controlling" to "teaching and guiding." While the sole role of the sourcing and vendor management organization (SVMO) is to ensure a constant, nondisrupted, and efficient supply of goods and services, this will not be easy to accomplish in an environment where disruptions are the new normal; new employees expect cutting-edge IT capabilities, and agility and flexibility are required to operate in a changing business environment. SVM professionals need to plan today if they want to become a future-oriented, value-generating service organization for IT and the business. This will not only create value for the company but will also lead to a more strategic career path for SVM professionals.
