Project portfolio management (PPM) is a best practice for managing a business' IT investments from the initial identification of business needs through project approval and funding. However, IT investment review boards (IRBs) in larger and more complex businesses can find wading through all the funding requests challenging and the results suboptimal. Business capability maps are a tool that helps IRBs make better decisions and enables IT to optimize the resulting project portfolio.
