Summary

Steven Spear is a deep thinker about business process management (BPM) disciplines. He pulls no punches when it comes to Six Sigma, Lean, and other process improvement methodologies that spring from the same root yet often compete for mindshare. In this interview, Dr. Spear gives a clarion call to the BPM community: Develop a standard way of discussing, analyzing, and communicating process improvement. In his view, until BPM professionals agree upon a common nomenclature similar to the ones financial and accounting professionals, or structural engineers and architects, use to refer to their discipline, it will be hard for BPM to scale throughout the business community.
