Faced with the need to improve information management and deliver better government services in an era of reduced budgets, the UK's Department for Education (DfE) created an Information Workplace platform (IWP). Designed to support the educational mission of the DfE and similar agencies, the IWP provides integrated information, collaboration, and business services to 2,500 DfE employees. To date, the Microsoft SharePoint-based platform has enabled a simplified and less costly IT infrastructure, better compliance and records management, and a 20% reduction in overall program costs, among other benefits.
