Summary
Forrester surveyed 100 human resources (HR) decision-makers to identify which best practices are most important, what firms' current capabilities are, and where there are significant gaps between the two. Significant gaps and overlap exist between current capabilities and cited importance. By and large, performance management, compensation management, and recruiting were cited as top priorities. But firms reported that they were the weakest in succession planning, goal management, and recruiting. Forrester recommends that firms use our best practices framework to get stakeholders on the same page, develop short-term goals within a longer-term process and application strategy, and measure ongoing progress. By doing so, firms will baseline their plan and have a framework to pivot as business priorities change.
