Security leaders remain slow to address skills gaps in their teams. Forrester data shows that, even among global security decision-makers who both: 1) identified the lack of employees with security skills as a key challenge at their organization and 2) increased their organization’s IT budget for security over the past year, very few prioritized upskilling their security teams. According to Forrester’s Security Survey, 2023, less than one-third of these organizations invested in upskilling and/or training for IT security staff in response to breach(es) or are focusing on hiring, retaining, or upskilling employees with security skills. This data snapshot shows security leaders’ reluctance to invest in upskilling even when the issue is identified and budgets are not an inhibiting factor.
